Manteo Rotary - A Message from the Club President

From all of us here at the Manteo Rotary Club, thank you for visiting, and welcome to our new website. We have a great event happening on December the 5th and we hope you will come out and join us for a day of great fishing, good food, and family fun. I'm talking about the 12th Annual Manteo Rotary Club Fundraiser the Rockfish Rodeo. Over the last eleven years Rockfish Rodeo patrons and sponsors have allowed us the privilege of providing over $160,000 in College Scholarship monies to local Dare County High School students.

In addition to our scholarship program, and because of a portion of the proceeds from the Rockfish Rodeo, the Manteo Rotary Club has also committed to a five year, $2500 per year, donation to the Manteo Elementary School Library Reading Program. These monies help support a summer reading program and allow the school to purchase special learning books and CD's for the school library. This year will mark our third year, and as such, our club has been recognized as the “Business Partner of the Year” for our efforts at MES.

Last year was a true testament to the generous hearts of everyone here in our community and to those who traveled far and wide to fish our Tournament. Even in what some called a down economy and the potential for slow fishing, we had a banner year. The family atmosphere, great fishing, good food and fellowship made for another great outing and this year’s event promises to be much of the same.

The sponsors listed there are all kind hearted and generous supporters of our cause and deserve all the recognition for making this all possible. When in town for the tournament, or just out and about, please eat, shop and stay with these good folks and continue helping them to help us, help our kids.

We are so grateful for everyone who comes out to fish the event. It’s so great for us to see the families who have been coming out for as long as tournament has been in existence, and the friends who come together every year to compete against one another, swap stories and good times. It really is and has been a terrific time for all of us to come together and celebrate the spirit of giving.

The Rockfish Rodeo is held in December for a reason, the Holiday Season is a time of giving, a time for us all to be mindful of the blessings we have in our lives and to pass along blessings to those who may not be as fortunate.
