Dear Friends and Fellow Rotarians,
Your interest in the Manteo Rotary Club is greatly appreciated, and we welcome you to learn more about us. You will find our website informative. The first news I would like to share is that this year marks the Club’s 75th year of existence, and we are excited to share with you our long life and many accomplishments during our Diamond Anniversary!
At its heart, the Manteo Rotary Club mirrors the work of the many thousands of other Rotary clubs around world. We share a passion for service to others in our personal, business and community life; we especially encourage the ideal of service and high ethical standards in our daily activities. We also look to foster international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a global fellowship in the ideal of service.
At the Manteo Rotary Club, we find many ways to serve our community. For example, our 14th Annual Fundraiser, the Rockfish Rodeo, will again be held in late November. We look forward to attracting children, women and men of all ages as participants. Over the last thirteen years, our Rockfish Rodeo patrons and sponsors have given us the privilege of providing nearly $190,000 in college scholarships monies to Dare County students.
Additional funds that the Manteo Rotary Club have raised have supported many other worthy local programs, some of which feed the hungry, offer medical help, improve literacy, fight drug abuse, assist public education programs, and, in a number of other ways, help those in need. We are excited that a Rotary Club-affiliated program – an Interact Club -- will get underway in the Manteo High School this fall. Student members that are 14 to 18-years-old will have the opportunity to develop and carry out their own community service projects.
One of the programs we are most proud to be a part of is Rotary International’s PolioPlus campaign, which aims to eradicate polio around the world within the next ten to twenty years. Contributions from Rotary members provide funding for vaccines to immunize children in places where the polio virus still exists and can infect people. This is truly a great work, and Manteo Rotary Club members feel honored to participate in the global PolioPlus effort.
Please take a moment now to visit our Rockfish Rodeo website at www.rockfishrodeo.com. You will quickly see how the fun experienced by the many families participating in the tournament is unforgettable! The sponsors listed are all generous and supportive; they deserve a lot of recognition for making the Rockfish Rodeo possible. Please shop, eat or stay with these fine sponsors, and continue to help them to help us.
Thank you for your interest in the Manteo Rotary Club. We hope you will visit us during one or more of our regularly-scheduled meetings. Perhaps you will decide to become a member of this group of dedicated people who enjoy putting their caring into action.
With all best wishes,
Robert T. Perry
President 2011-2012
